Due to the depleting green cover, the planet is facing unprecedented climate related challenges. The human impact has led to the loss of  around 40% of the world’s forests already. Forests affect climate by removing large amounts of atmospheric carbon, absorbing and reflecting solar radiation, cooling through evapotranspiration and producing cloud-forming aerosols. Forests and tree-based systems have the largest potential to mitigate climate change because of its cost effectiveness, high potential rates of carbon uptake and storage, and associated environmental and social benefit for all species.

India INDC 2030 has assumed targets to Create 2.5 Billion tonne of new carbon sink by creating forests, with an eye to achieve Net Zero ambition by 2070. Contributing to such targets, BMW India Foundation has started to take progressive steps to create and restore green cover. The project has been initiated in Delhi-NCR, which is among the most polluted areas in the world. We firmly believe that healthier ecosystems, with richer biodiversity, yield greater benefits for everyone.
