You can now enjoy the flexibility of your iPod, iPod mini and iPod nano while at the wheel of your BMW. A direct connection to the audio system gives you access to all of your stored tracks. Your iPod, meanwhile, remains safely stowed in the glove compartment, and can be operated easily and safely using the BMW Radio, the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, or the iDrive Controller. The Original BMW Interface for the Apple iPod is compatible with the following optional equipment: Professional radio (option code 663), Navigation Business (option code 606) and Navigation Professional (option code 609).

If the iPod interface is to be retrofitted to a car with a BMW CD changer (option code 672), the CD changer must be removed first. It is not possible to operate the BMW CD changer (option code 672) and the iPod interface at the same time.
