Developed on the race track for everyday use. As an independent development of BMW M GmbH, the BMW M5 Sedan abides by the M Philosophy and perfectly combines high performance with suitability for everyday use.
Meeting high demands. The state-of-the-art M high-performance chassis underwent the toughest possible test for M Automobiles: the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The results are maximum driving dynamics and agility, as well as maximum precision and control – even at the limits of driving physics. This is made possible by specific stiffening, which optimises stability and increases the precision of steering responses. The front axle, for instance, is connected very rigidly to the body by an aluminium shear panel. Combined with the M TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine and the -speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, it creates an automobile that sets new standards for dynamic driving and precision.

M TWINPOWER TURBO V8 PETROL ENGINE IN THE BMW M5 SEDAN.

The numbers speak for themselves: 680 Nm, 560 hp (412 kW), 0 to 100 km/h 4.3 seconds. The high-rev eight-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine of the new BMW M5 makes a statement with its performance and acceleration.
The remarkable engine power comes from the connection to a linear power curve with the extreme thrust of a double turbocharger. Enhanced intercoolers and the patented TwinScroll charging concept ensure a spontaneous response rate. The torque of 680 Nm is available over an extremely wide rev range from 1,500 to 5,750 1/min. As a result, the M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine reacts to every touch of the accelerator with a tremendous forward surgeThanks to Valvetronic and High Precision Injection, the engine also sets standards for performance and fuel consumption. This results in an average of only 9.9 litres consumption. This results in an average of 10.10 km/l consumption when combined with BMW EfficientDynamics measures such as Auto Start Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration.

More traction and greater stability when cornering and even on snow, gravel or ice. The Active M differential supplies optimum traction and supports the dynamic qualities of the rear-wheel drive – both when accelerating out of corners and manoeuvring on slippery surfaces.
The Active M differential even affords precise handling in cases of extreme lateral acceleration or uneven road surfaces. Here the active system is connected to the DSC by an electronic control element and proactively imposes an intelligent locking action – completely independent of the differences in rotational speed between the right and left rear wheel. The results of this channelling of drive power are optimum traction, better handling as well as increased agility.

M SERVOTRONIC.

All bends are enticing. Particularly with assistance from M Servotronic. The intelligent system dynamically adapts steering power and resistance in line with your driving speed.
The BMW M5 Sedan obeys the driver’s commands precisely at any speed. The power assist reacts with more resistance at high speeds. It automatically decreases at low speeds, on bends and when parking, thus smoother vehicle behaviour. At increasing speeds, the power assist is continually controlled and reduced, resulting in more direct contact with the road.

M CHASSIS.

Meeting high demands for driving dynamics, agility and precision – the M high-performance suspension with its sophisticated design exploits the tremendous potential of this vehicle to the full on any road.
Outstanding acceleration also comes from the Active M differential on the rear axle. The three settings on the Dynamic Damping Control – Normal, Sport and Sport Plus – allow you to adjust the suspension to suit your requirements. The M Drive buttons on the steering wheel are pre-programmed with vehicle configurations that support either a sporty or relaxed driving style. One of these is the M Dynamic Mode, which allows a particularly authentic driving experience using the maximum lateral and longitudinal dynamics possible. This affects the normal function of the Dynamic Stability Control so it only has a stabilising effect in emergency situations.
